Member Spotlight: Mike’s Fitness Journey with CrossFit Liquid

At CrossFit Liquid, we take pride in celebrating our members’ hard work and dedication. Today, we’re excited to share the inspiring story of Mike, who has made significant strides in his health and fitness journey. Mike’s transformation is a testament to the power of consistency, community, and personalized coaching. What has he accomplished? Happy you asked! Mike’s been a member of CrossFit Liquid for about 5 months now, and his goal is to improve his heart health, lung capacity, flexibility, and mobility and lose a few pounds. For the first 4 months of Mike’s Journey, he focused solely on creating and maintaining a consistent fitness routine by showing up 3-5 times each week. Finally, once he felt like he nailed that, he decided in Month 4 to focus on his nutrition by starting with our Nutrition Coaching program. In the 1 month since focusing on his nutrition, Mike has: If this isn’t inspirational, I don’t know what is! But enough of us talking about Mike’s Journey; here’s what he has to say about it so far. Q: What was your fitness and health journey like before joining CrossFit Liquid? Mike: “Before CrossFit Liquid, I tried and failed using weight loss meds. I never exercised consistently, and there wasn’t much intensity when I did; I couldn’t find the motivation to keep going.” Q: What was your biggest challenge when you first started, and how did you overcome it? Mike: “Learning the exercises was tough at first. I’m still getting better, but I need constant correction. The coaches here are patient and always willing to help me improve.” Q: How has CrossFit Liquid, its coaches, and the community supported you in reaching your goals? Mike: “They rock. All of them. The coaches here understand and know how to work with people with disabilities. Other gyms can’t do that. No matter your limitations, they find ways to modify the workouts so you can still have a great session.” Q: What advice would you give someone considering starting their fitness journey at CrossFit Liquid? Mike: “CrossFit can work for you. If you’ve done it before, there’s a 100% chance you’ll enjoy CrossFit Liquid. They keep you on track, demonstrate every movement, and coach you (I’m a slow learner). No one raises their voices, and the coaches are approachable, just like many others on the same Journey as you.” Mike also highlighted the welcoming atmosphere at CrossFit Liquid. “No cliques,” he said. “No cliques,” he said. “Everyone here is supportive, even those who are in amazing shape. You’re welcomed into the community from day one. The coaches pace everything to your ability and always have alternatives if you’re dealing with injuries or limitations. It’s a place where everyone, regardless of their fitness level, feels like they belong.” After discovering that his foot would no longer tolerate running or jumping impacts, Mike was impressed with how quickly the trainers provided him with alternative exercises that helped him achieve the same results. “They have an open trial about once a month, so try it. If you need a sponsor, ask for me, Mike Lofton. CrossFit Liquid will get you to the promised land,” Mike smiled. Mike’s story reminds us that no matter where you start, you can achieve great things with the right support system. At CrossFit Liquid, we’re proud to help members like Mike reach their fitness goals, overcome obstacles, and discover new strengths within themselves. Oh, and one last thing. Mike shared the picture below. This is a picture of him in an outfit that he previously couldn’t fit into but kept around with hopes of fitting into one day. Sound familiar? Who here has clothes that are too small in their closet that they won’t get rid of because they want to wear them again? Are you ready to start your fitness journey? Join us at CrossFit Liquid and become part of a community that will uplift you every step of the way!

Should I Eat Before Strength Training and High-Intensity Workouts?

I’ve been on the fence about whether I should eat before my workouts. I’ve read so many different opinions—some say to exercise on an empty stomach for fat loss. In contrast, others swear by eating beforehand for better performance. So, I decided to dive into it and figure out what’s best for me, especially when I’m gearing up for strength training or a high-intensity workout. My Body’s Fuel: The Role of Food I’ve learned that my body needs energy to perform, especially when lifting weights or pushing through a challenging workout. This energy comes from glycogen, which is basically stored carbohydrates. If I don’t eat before I work out, my glycogen levels might not be where they need to be. And that could make me feel sluggish or even run out of steam halfway through my session. Why Eating Before Feels Like a Game-Changer What and When I Eat I’ve found that timing and what I eat are essential. If I’ve got time, I’ll have a balanced meal with some carbs and protein a couple of hours before I work out. But if I’m in a rush, I’ll grab a quick snack like a banana with peanut butter or a yogurt about 30 minutes before I start. Conclusion Deciding whether to eat before my workouts took some trial and error, but I’ve realized that it makes a difference in how I perform and feel. Fueling beforehand helps me push harder, stay focused, and recover better. It’s become an essential part of my routine, and I’d recommend trying it if you’re looking to get the most out of your workouts. After all, every bit of energy counts when striving to reach your goals!
