CrossFit Liquid Foundations Program: Learn CrossFit Basics

Are you curious about CrossFit but feel intimidated or need help figuring out where to start? Or have you heard about the high cost of traditional on-ramp programs and want to make a manageable financial commitment upfront? We understand these concerns at CrossFit Liquid, so we created our Foundations Program—a beginner-friendly, affordable way to start with CrossFit. Here, we’ll explain our Foundations Program, how it can help you learn CrossFit’s essential movements safely, and how we’ve removed the high financial barrier that typically comes with starting CrossFit. What is CrossFit Liquid’s Foundations Program? The Foundations Program at CrossFit Liquid is designed to introduce you to CrossFit’s core movements and concepts in a small group setting. It’s a cost-effective alternative to traditional on-ramp programs, often requiring one-on-one coaching. We aim to make CrossFit accessible to everyone, regardless of their fitness level or budget. During this program, you’ll learn the fundamentals of CrossFit, including basic lifts and bodyweight exercises, and how to safely perform these movements. This will prepare you to confidently join our regular classes, knowing you have a solid grasp of the essential techniques. Why Start with Foundations? Due to its variety of movements and intensity, CrossFit can seem overwhelming for beginners. You’ve probably seen terms like “WOD” (Workout of the Day), “clean and jerk,” or “snatch” and wondered, “Where do I even begin?” That’s precisely why we focus on the basics. We break down each movement step-by-step so you can learn proper form, prevent injury, and build strength over time. Here are a few foundational movements we’ll teach you: Mastering these movements will set you up for success in our regular classes and give you the confidence to take on more complex workouts. Affordability: Removing the Financial Barrier One of the biggest challenges for new CrossFitters is the cost. Traditional on-ramp programs typically involve multiple one-on-one sessions with a coach, which can add up quickly. This financial hurdle discourages many people from even trying CrossFit. At CrossFit Liquid, we believe fitness should be accessible to everyone. That’s why our Foundations Program offers a more affordable option: holding group classes instead of one-on-one sessions. You’ll receive the same high-quality coaching in a small group setting but at a fraction of the cost. This way, you don’t have to worry about an expensive upfront cost—show up ready to learn and improve your fitness. How Does the Foundations Program Work? Our Foundations Program is held on three Saturdays each month from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Each session is one hour long and covers different foundational movements. The program is designed to gradually build your strength and understanding of CrossFit so you can confidently transition into our regular classes. Here’s a typical breakdown of what you can expect during a month in our Foundations Program: By completing the program, you’ll understand CrossFit’s essential movements and be ready to join our community in regular classes. The Benefits of Our Foundations Program Is the Foundations Program right for you? Here are a few key benefits: Why CrossFit Liquid? At CrossFit Liquid, we pride ourselves on creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where people of all fitness levels can succeed. Member Spotlight: Mike’s Fitness Journey with CrossFit Liquid

At CrossFit Liquid, we take pride in celebrating our members’ hard work and dedication. Today, we’re excited to share the inspiring story of Mike, who has made significant strides in his health and fitness journey. Mike’s transformation is a testament to the power of consistency, community, and personalized coaching. What has he accomplished? Happy you asked! Mike’s been a member of CrossFit Liquid for about 5 months now, and his goal is to improve his heart health, lung capacity, flexibility, and mobility and lose a few pounds. For the first 4 months of Mike’s Journey, he focused solely on creating and maintaining a consistent fitness routine by showing up 3-5 times each week. Finally, once he felt like he nailed that, he decided in Month 4 to focus on his nutrition by starting with our Nutrition Coaching program. In the 1 month since focusing on his nutrition, Mike has: If this isn’t inspirational, I don’t know what is! But enough of us talking about Mike’s Journey; here’s what he has to say about it so far. Q: What was your fitness and health journey like before joining CrossFit Liquid? Mike: “Before CrossFit Liquid, I tried and failed using weight loss meds. I never exercised consistently, and there wasn’t much intensity when I did; I couldn’t find the motivation to keep going.” Q: What was your biggest challenge when you first started, and how did you overcome it? Mike: “Learning the exercises was tough at first. I’m still getting better, but I need constant correction. The coaches here are patient and always willing to help me improve.” Q: How has CrossFit Liquid, its coaches, and the community supported you in reaching your goals? Mike: “They rock. All of them. The coaches here understand and know how to work with people with disabilities. Other gyms can’t do that. No matter your limitations, they find ways to modify the workouts so you can still have a great session.” Q: What advice would you give someone considering starting their fitness journey at CrossFit Liquid? Mike: “CrossFit can work for you. If you’ve done it before, there’s a 100% chance you’ll enjoy CrossFit Liquid. They keep you on track, demonstrate every movement, and coach you (I’m a slow learner). No one raises their voices, and the coaches are approachable, just like many others on the same Journey as you.” Mike also highlighted the welcoming atmosphere at CrossFit Liquid. “No cliques,” he said. “No cliques,” he said. “Everyone here is supportive, even those who are in amazing shape. You’re welcomed into the community from day one. The coaches pace everything to your ability and always have alternatives if you’re dealing with injuries or limitations. It’s a place where everyone, regardless of their fitness level, feels like they belong.” After discovering that his foot would no longer tolerate running or jumping impacts, Mike was impressed with how quickly the trainers provided him with alternative exercises that helped him achieve the same results. “They have an open trial about once a month, so try it. If you need a sponsor, ask for me, Mike Lofton. CrossFit Liquid will get you to the promised land,” Mike smiled. Mike’s story reminds us that no matter where you start, you can achieve great things with the right support system. At CrossFit Liquid, we’re proud to help members like Mike reach their fitness goals, overcome obstacles, and discover new strengths within themselves. Oh, and one last thing. Mike shared the picture below. This is a picture of him in an outfit that he previously couldn’t fit into but kept around with hopes of fitting into one day. Sound familiar? Who here has clothes that are too small in their closet that they won’t get rid of because they want to wear them again? Are you ready to start your fitness journey? Join us at CrossFit Liquid and become part of a community that will uplift you every step of the way!

In this guide, we’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions about CrossFit, ranging from “What is CrossFit?” to “Is CrossFit right for me?” By the end, you’ll clearly understand what to expect, how to get started, and how CrossFit can transform your fitness journey. So, let’s get to it. What is CrossFit? At its core, CrossFit is a high-intensity fitness program that combines functional movements from various disciplines, including weightlifting, gymnastics, and cardio. Each workout challenges your strength, endurance, agility, and mobility. What sets CrossFit apart is its scalability—whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned athlete, every workout can be adjusted to your fitness level. CrossFit focuses on functional movements, which mimic everyday actions like lifting, pushing, pulling, and squatting. These movements are performed at high intensity to maximize results quickly, making it an effective workout for anyone with a busy lifestyle. The ultimate goal of CrossFit is to improve overall fitness, helping you become stronger, faster, and more resilient in everyday life. What Are the Benefits of CrossFit? CrossFit offers a variety of physical and mental benefits, making it a holistic approach to fitness. Physical Benefits of CrossFit: Mental Benefits of CrossFit: How Does a CrossFit Class Work? For the most part, a typical CrossFit class lasts an hour and follows a structured format: Each class is led by a certified coach who ensures proper form and provides modifications as needed. The community aspect shines through here, with members cheering each other on to finish strong. Do I Need to Be Fit to Start CrossFit? One of the biggest misconceptions about CrossFit is that you need to be in great shape to start. In reality, CrossFit is designed for everyone, regardless of fitness level. Workouts can be modified based on your abilities. You can adjust the weight, intensity, and reps to match your fitness level. At CrossFit Liquid, we offer a Beginner Onramp program. Michael Murphy, Hero WOD

What is a CrossFit Hero WOD? Honoring the Fallen Together

Everytime we get the opportunity to do a Hero WOD, I start out by setting the tone: “Today, we’re doing a Hero WOD. These workouts are different—they’re tough, but they also mean something bigger than just getting through the reps. They’re about honoring the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for us. This is our chance to remember them, show our gratitude, and push ourselves in a way that reflects their courage and strength.” What is a Hero WOD? A Hero WOD (Workout of the Day) is more than just a challenging workout; it’s a tribute. Each Hero WOD is named after a specific fallen soldier, firefighter, police officer, or first responder who died while serving others. These workouts are designed to be tough, mentally and physically, to reflect the complex and selfless lives these heroes led. When we take on a Hero WOD, we do more than work out. We’re carrying the weight of their sacrifice with every rep, every round, and every breath. Today, we’ll honor their legacy by giving our absolute best effort—just like they did. Honoring the Fallen I know some of you have done Hero WODs before, and you understand the significance. But for those of you who are new, this is something special we do as a community. Each rep today is more than a workout—it’s a chance to reflect on the lost lives and remember what they stood for service, sacrifice, and courage. We’re not just here for ourselves today; we’re doing this to honor someone who gave everything. Whether you knew them or not, you’re part of something bigger when you take on a Hero WOD. Take a minute and think about the person behind the workout—what they stood for, what they gave up, and what we get to do today because of them. Here are a few examples of Hero WODs that you might recognize: How to Approach a Hero WOD Hero WODs are intentionally tricky. They’re supposed to push you beyond what feels comfortable. But today isn’t about hitting PRs or competing with the person next to you—it’s about giving your best. However, that looks good for you today. After the WOD: Reflection and Respect When you finish today’s workout, take a moment to reflect. Don’t just rush off. Hero WODs are meant to make us think and feel. Think about the person we honored and the sacrifice they made. Take that gratitude and carry it with you when you leave here today. It’s a privilege to be able to do what we do in the gym—and even more of a privilege to do it in honor of someone who gave their life for others. Closing Thoughts Hero WODs are special. They’re challenging, emotional, and humbling. But more than anything, they’re a way to connect us to something bigger than ourselves. Remember the why when you step up to that barbell today or start that run. This workout isn’t just about you—it’s about honoring someone who can’t be here anymore. Give everything you’ve got. Honor them with your effort, your respect, and your heart. Let’s get to work.

Planned Meals for the Week

The Power of Planning Your Week: Focusing on What Matters

Life can get chaotic—work deadlines, family commitments, and unexpected events often leave little room for the things that truly matter, like your health and well-being. But what if I told you there’s a simple strategy that can help you stay on track even when life gets busy? That strategy is planning your week in advance. The Importance of a Plan Planning isn’t just about being organized; it’s about prioritizing your goals and setting yourself up for success. When you take the time to plan, you’re making a conscious decision to focus on what’s important. Whether you fit in workouts, meal prep, or simply carve out some time, a plan gives you a roadmap so you’re not left scrambling when things get hectic. A Real-Life Example: The Power of Meal Planning One of our nutrition clients recently shared a handwritten meal plan they created for the entire week. Each day, they listed every meal—breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snacks. Writing it down has taken the guesswork out of their daily meals, saving them time, reducing stress, and, most importantly, keeping them accountable to their goals. By planning their meals ahead of time, they no longer have to wonder what’s for dinner after a long day at work. Instead, they can focus on enjoying their meals, knowing they are nourishing their body with the right foods. Accountability and Consistency One of the biggest benefits of planning your week is the accountability it creates. When you’ve written something down, it feels more official. It’s a commitment to yourself. That meal plan on the fridge isn’t just a list; it’s a promise to make choices that align with your goals. Consistency is key to achieving long-term results, whether in your fitness journey, your nutrition, or any other area of life. Planning your week helps you stay consistent by removing the obstacles that often lead to excuses. You know what needs to be done, and you’ve already figured out how to make it happen. How to Start Planning Your Week Final Thoughts Planning your week might seem small, but it can significantly impact your life. It’s about taking control of your time and ensuring that the things that matter most are noticed. So, take a cue from our client—grab a pen, write down your goals, and watch how much easier it becomes to stay on track. Remember, the key to success is consistency, and consistency starts with a plan.

Embracing Suckcess: The Uncelebrated Victory of Showing Up

We all love the highlight reels—those moments when everything clicks when the hard work pays off, and we feel invincible. But what about the days when things fall apart, the effort seems in vain, and the progress feels nonexistent? Welcome to the world of “suckcess.” What is Suckcess? Suckcess is more than just a clever play on words; it’s a concept that encapsulates the reality of any journey toward a goal. It includes those hard days that don’t go as planned, the moments when you’re giving it your all but still feel stuck, and the times when, despite inching closer to your goal, you somehow feel further away. Suckcess is waking up early for that workout and feeling like you’ve gone backward instead of forward. It’s sticking to a nutrition plan and stepping on the scale only to find the needle hasn’t budged—or worse, it’s moved in the wrong direction. It’s doing the right things repeatedly but not getting the instant gratification we’ve been conditioned to expect. The Power of Suckcess But here’s the thing: suckcess is a critical part of the process. It’s easy to celebrate the big wins, but the real growth happens in the trenches, during those tough days when everything seems to be working against you. Suckcess teaches resilience. It’s the training ground for grit and determination, the birthplace of actual progress. When you experience suckcess, you build the mental and emotional muscles that will carry you to your ultimate goal. You’re learning to show up even when the rewards aren’t immediate, and that’s where the magic happens. Why You Should Embrace Suckcess How to Navigate Suckcess Days The Reward of Suckcess In the end, suckcess isn’t something to be avoided or dreaded—it’s something to be embraced. It’s a sign that you’re pushing yourself, stepping outside of your comfort zone, and being committed to your goal, no matter what. So, the next time you have one of those days, remember: suckcess is part of the journey. Keep showing up, keep putting in the work, and know that every suckcess day brings you one step closer to the success you’re striving for.
