I must admit, I received this question before and lost a potential new member because I did such a poor job responding. To begin, CrossFit is for everyone! Regardless of your background, current fitness level, injuries, etc. How can that be? Because we can always substitute movements to meet you exactly where you are while challenging you to improve!
At CrossFit Liquid, we have a 3-step system, that begins with establishing a snapshot of your current level of fitness. This will allow us to work with you to create an actionable, progressive plan to achieve your goal: The phases are as follows:
- Assess: In this phase we assess all of our incoming members across 15 categories. The categories include front squats, back squats, pull ups, running, core strength, rowing, cleans, kettlebell endurance, and deadlifts just to name a few. It takes approximately 5, 1-hour long 1:1 sessions with a coach to accomplish this. At the end of this, we will know exactly where you are in your fitness journey
- Address: After the assessments, we review at your snapshot in a goal setting session to identify your natural strengths and find areas that can be improved upon. This is where we help create an actionable, progressive plan to achieve and exceed your goals
- Progress: Now we collectively implement the plan, setup milestones, and potential timelines to achieve your goals.
Ok cool but do I need to be Fit to do CrossFit?
Ah, I’m glad reiterated the question!
Now that we have a snapshot of your current level of fitness, in the group setting, we’ll have 1 workout that is written in 7 variations.
With increasing levels of difficultly and complexity, the chart goes from left (white/beginner) to right (black/expert). This workout has a huge emphasis on heavy breathing, high muscle fatigue, and the ability to work through the muscle burn. The goal of this workout is to be completed in under 8 minutes. Since you’ve been fully assessed, we’ll know exactly which version of this workout that’ll challenge you and give you the same heart rate pump and fatigue levels as the more experienced CrossFitter, who is doing a different version workout.
With consistency and the desire to improve, you’ll see that overtime, you’ll be able to:
- Do more reps, faster
- Lift heavier weights, safely
- Do more complex movements
Which is all a part of the process to level up your fitness! But first it starts with you making a commitment to yourself to prioritize your health and fitness!
All of that to say, you DO NOT need to be “Fit” to do CrossFit! However, once you start CrossFit, you’ll become Fit!
