Core strength is one of the most critical aspects of overall health and well-being. Why is that? Because it can hugely impact many areas in our life, from improved posture to increased athletic performance. Core strength training is a great way to improve the function of your body and mind and help prevent injuries and reduce pain.
Who can benefit from a stronger core?
Well, whether you’re a casual exerciser, an overworked parent, a college student, a teacher, a plumber, or a professional athlete (you get where I’m going here), core strength is beneficial for everyone!
What are the benefits of Core Strength?
Regular core strengthening exercises can improve the following:
- Your posture, balance, and stability
- Reduce the risk of injury
- Increase athletic performance and digestive health
- Make you feel better overall
Examples:
- To put it in simple CrossFit terms, ever heard the cue “Brace your core?” Is that specific to certain movements? Nope, it’s not! You’ll hear that for weightlifting, gymnastics, and cardio workouts. Why? Because power and balance begin at the core and then radiate to the fingers and toes.
- Think about trying to dunk a basketball but with straight legs and all-calf muscles. How high will you get? Not very high. Add your core muscles by bending the knees and hips, then shooting the hips forward, and you’ll create enough power to propel you to the rim. That’s the power of your core muscles!
